Chef Shane and Sharon

Searing is a high-heat stove-top technique used to char the exterior of food, often meats and fish. The golden brown, sometimes crispy surface of properly seared food adds texture, and enhances flavor. This culinary technique is commonly used in restaurants, and now you can learn to do it just as well.

We'll cover basics such as:

*the reason for searing
*the importance of temperature
*what pan and tools to use
*how long to apply heat

-and much more. . .

We'll have a great time of learning and socializing, as your host-chef demonstrates the concept, principal, and philosophy of searing, using sea scallops.

Dinner will be served. The menu is as follows (but is subject to change):

Crab avacado salad with honey-lime vinagrette

Citrus pan-seared wild sea scallops with ginger soy rice noodles

The fee for this event will be $25. We realize this is more than our sessions usually are but scallops and crabs are quite expensive. . . You will receive an email with a link to a check-out page prior to the event. All payments will be required to be submitted no later than July 13, 6:30pm.

This meetup is for beginner, and intermediate cooks.
If you have any questions, please be sure to ask before you RSVP. "Maybes" will not be accepted for this event. Please be sure that you will be able to attend before you RSVP.

We look forward to seeing you there!

I learned so much more than how to sear at this meetup and I can't wait to attend another delicious event soon! It was also really great that Shane arranged for us to have a perfect view of fireworks at Crane's Roost as we enjoyed dessert ;-)
    •  I thought everyone had a great time!!
    •  Chef Shane knows his stuff and has a great approach to teaching cooking. The fireworks were great too.
